Storage

Oragene•DNA is designed to provide the ultimate in stability and flexibility. DNA in Oragene•DNA/saliva samples is stable at room temperature for years. Alternatively, DNA can be extracted from the samples and stored in the same manner as DNA extracted from either blood, mouthwash or buccal swabs.

The following documents will provide you with additional information about storage and stability with Oragene•DNA.

Storage of specimens by refrigeration or freezing can add significant costs to a project. Oragene•DNA eliminates these costs by allowing saliva samples to be stored for years at room temperature without DNA degradation.

GenPlates® for the storage of Oragene•DNA™ samples (pdf):
Saliva samples collected with Oragene•DNA™ may be conveniently stored in a dry form on GenPlates®. From the GenPlate, the DNA may be recovered and purified with GenSolve™ kits. The recovered DNA is high quality and suitable for PCR, real-time PCR, and SNP genotyping applications.

"The collection protocol is very convenient, the extraction is very quick and simple, and the yield is great. Our downstream applications include PCR, restriction enzyme digestion and sequencing.

We have collected numerous family members who were not willing to go for a blood draw, as well as children, elderly patients and overseas relatives. The ease of shipping and self-collection are remarkable. Our lab is very impressed with this timely product."
