Sample Collection
Genetic research starts with the collection of DNA samples. Oragene•DNA is the easiest way to collect large amounts of DNA from more donors, with the least cost and complexity. Oragene•DNA is ideal for mailing studies as the compact, robust design fits through mailbox slots and securely protects the sample.
Easy and Non-Invasive Collection

Donor delivers saliva
into the Oragene•DNA
collection container. |
Capping the container releases
DNA-preserving fluid which then mixes
with the saliva. DNA is now stabilized
at room temperature until it is analyzed
at the lab. |
The documents on this page will provide you with additional information about DNA collection using Oragene•DNA.
DNA Collection with Saliva
DNA Yield with Oragene•DNA (pdf):
Oragene•DNA gives higher yields than other oral collection methods. The median yield from Oragene•DNA samples is 110 µg. In comparison, buccal swabs may yield as little as 1.9 µg of DNA.
Mailing Solutions (pdf):
For researchers who are collecting from remote donors, DNA Genotek has developed a full mailing solution. This solution includes a summary of the International Air Transport Association guidelines for shipping biological samples.

Tips for improving the median amount of DNA per sample.
DNA Yield is Proportional to Saliva Volume (pdf):
The DNA yield from Oragene•DNA is proportional to the amount of saliva. Less than 2 ml of saliva results in proportionately less DNA yield.
