Ian Curry - President
Prior to joining DNA Genotek in 2004, Mr. Curry spent 9 years as a key leader of Entrust, Inc. He joined the company in its startup phase and played an instrumental role in creating a new market, ultimately growing Entrust to a global leader in Internet security software with over $200 million ($Cdn) in revenue in 2000. He participated in Entrust's 1998 initial public offering and a secondary offering in 2000. Mr. Curry's management skills enabled him to be successful at a variety of executive roles, including Chief Marketing Officer, President of Entrust.net (a subsidiary launched by Mr. Curry in 1999), Vice President of Investor Relations, and Vice President of Product Management. Directly prior to joining Entrust, he attended MIT's Sloan School of Management. He holds a Master's in Science (Management) from MIT and a Bachelor of Science (Honours, Computer Science) from The University of Western Ontario.
Patrick Walsh - Chief Financial Officer
Mr. Walsh joined the DNA Genotek senior management team in August 2010, following 25 years in the telecommunications industry where he held a variety of demanding and progressively more senior positions spanning finance, operations, product management, marketing, manufacturing, customer service and strategic relationship management. Immediately prior to joining DNA Genotek he was the General Manager Nortel's ATM Switching Division and responsible for all aspects of customer, investment and business decisions. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce Degree (Honours) from the University of Ottawa and he is a Chartered Accountant.
Dr. H. Chaim Birnboim - Founder & Chief Scientific Officer
Dr. Birnboim is a physician, university professor, long-time research scientist at the Ottawa Regional Cancer Centre and the inventor of Oragene•DNA and GenoFix. Dr. Birnboim has thirty years of experience in the field of DNA research and is the author of 3 patents and over 90 scientific papers. Dr. Birnboim first attracted the scientific community's attention with his paper describing an innovative plasmid DNA purification process that rapidly became the procedure of choice in biotechnology labs around the world. He was recently named the Regional Innovation Forum's "Innovator of the Year" by Canada's National Research Council (NRC).
Roy Sunstrum - Vice President, Research & Development
Mr. Sunstrum has over 20 years of leadership experience in disciplines including component engineering, manufacturing operations and supply management. Before joining DNA Genotek, he held Director & VP level positions at Nortel Networks and JDS Uniphase. After leaving JDS Uniphase, Mr. Sunstrum and his partner, Damian Hanel formed Sunstrum Hanel & Associates, a consultancy which has helped more than 30 companies in a variety of markets solve execution challenges and enable sustainable growth. He began working with DNA Genotek as a consultant in early 2004. This evolved into his role as VP Operations in early 2005, and in 2007 he also assumed responsibility for Product Development. Mr. Sunstrum has been on the advisory board of the Ottawa Manufacturers Network since 1996.
Brian Smith - Vice President, Sales
Mr. Smith has over 25 years domestic and international marketing and business development experience. He has applied his knowledge and expertise commercialising innovative technology in early stage markets to numerous early stage and small cap companies. Prior to joining DNA Genotek, he was Director of Sales and Marketing for Telephonetics VIP plc, a UK speech recognition company, after having orchestrated the sale of Voice Integrated Products to Telephonetics plc. Previous positions include Vice President of Marketing at Cloakware Corporation (Ottawa), President of Ponte Communications (California), and executive positions at Entrust Technologies in both North America and Europe. Brian has a Bachelor of Commerce from McGill University with a major in Management Information Systems.
Cindy MacCullough - Vice-President, Marketing
Ms. MacCullough has over 15 years of business experience in the fields of marketing, business strategy and management consulting. Before joining DNA Genotek, Ms. MacCullough held positions with Andersen Consulting and PriceWaterhouseCoopers, where she executed numerous engagements with top-tier clients such as Corning, Dupont, and the Government of Canada. During this time, Ms. MacCullough spearheaded consulting services that encompassed integrated marketing strategy, business process reengineering and new system definition and development for both domestic and global clients. She also held marketing roles at Mitel Networks, Nurun Inc and Sciemetric Instruments where Ms. MacCullough was responsible for executing strategies and initiatives focused on the advancement of corporate and product marketing. She holds a Bachelor of Commerce Degree (Honours) from the University of Ottawa.
Chantal Hemens-Davis - Vice President of Operations, Quality & Regulatory Affairs
Ms. Hemens-Davis joined DNA Genotek in 2005 as the Quality Manager and successfully led the company to achieve ISO 13485 registration in 2006. In January 2008, her role evolved to include regulatory affairs and in early 2010, she added the responsibility of supply chain management. Prior to joining DNA Genotek, Ms. Hemens-Davis held Director level positions at JDS Uniphase in quality assurance and supplier and component engineering where she was responsible for process quality, product integrity, supplier quality and quality system management. She also held management level positions in quality, component and reliability engineering at Nortel Networks. She holds a Master's of Science (Analytical Chemistry) Degree from Queen's University.
